Many of you will remember that in 2015, we supported Maggie and her dog Oscar who cycled around the UK in support of two charities, LEUKAEMIA AND LYMPHOMA RESEARCH and SANDS. Maggie has asked us to pass on her Christmas wishes to you all and she tells me that her long awaited booked may be out next year!
And on behalf of all of us at DogFriendly, may I wish you a very happy Christmas!
Thanks and kind regards
Our friend Helen Bunter of DogWalking Holidays has sent us a copy of her Christmas Newsletter - you can read it by clicking here
Thank you for sending us your recommendations. We add all of them to our database and include as many of them as we can in our e-newsletter.
Please keep sending them in!
This last weekend just gone, Jo and I went to London for our Pre - Christmas visit to our son who lives in South Norwood, which is South East London... Because he is unable to have us to stay in his tiny house, we stay at the Crystal Palace Travelodge in Penge ... Normally we would leave the dogs at home, but at the last moment our Dog Sitter was taken ill so we had no alternative but to take them with us. We telephoned the Hotel and Yes, they are dog friendly for a charge of £20.00 for our two girls Dulcie & DixieMay.
The hotel rooms are a good size, with a Kingsize bed which is very comfortable we both thought. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room and there is a choice of two cold breakfast kits which look adequate, and can be purchased from reception.
Just up the side road from the hotel pedestrian exit, there is a small park/recreation ground where you can run your dog off lead and there are bins provided so remember to "pick up". I must be honest and say that the amount of litter lying around was quite horrifying, however that might be to do with the number of foxes on night patrol in the area, we saw at least 2 on our first night.
All in all we were quite surprised at how easy it was with the dogs, knowing that there are not a great many parks around there. However 10 minutes away in Beckenham there are 3 parks that we have used in the past and 2 of those are larger.
I think that we will certainly think twice about getting the dog sitter next time - which will probably be in February. We paid £78.00 for 2 nights. Parking is free in their own car park
Just wanted to let you know about a fantastic little dog friendly bar in Llandudno. It's called the Irish Bar and is on Mostyn Street LL30 2PE. We were greeted with a bowl of water and a tub of treats even before we had ordered our food and drinks. The owner, Mick was really welcoming and the food we had was great.
We have been up in South Wales for a week, we were visiting Ogmore by the sea and found a pub called the Watermill the manager has been here since August and is so dog friendly he came out with water and biscuits for the dog while we had coffee and biscuits.
We have just spent the most perfect weekend in the Cotswolds. We stayed in The Bull Inn in Charlbury. The room was beautiful and the staff wonderful, they couldn't have been more dog friendly if they tried. It is a perfect combination of country pub and hotel, nothing was too much trouble. We went into breakfast at 8-30am then sat round the inglenook fire reading the papers.
There is a huge country park within easy walking distance. All the staff just love the dogs and our Corgis were more than happy with their weekend break.
Louise Craggs contacted us this week asking if we could let our members know about a petition that she has started to introduce Animal Health and Welfare to the school curriculum.
